Smith O'Neal is of American decent. He was trained in the UNSC as an ODST and was later recruited in a Spec Ops program tagged B1023. He eagerly joined B1023 , now known as the Black Points, as a Rifleman for Alpha squad. B1023 were used repeatedly to battle the Covenant after Reach fell. In the battle for Earth the UNSC reported all of the soldiers of B1023 as MIA. None of the B1023 returned to the UNSC. Most of the soldiers had died during the battle for Earth. Nine of the soldiers were on a Pelican drop ship that was reported MIA shortly after entering atmosphere.
