Eventually Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs (as Richard Taylor) attended one of DeMarco's poker games, winning big, then letting DeMarco know about his experience in Philadelphia running an operation where Tubbs was collection, protection, and banking, and convinces Lombard and DeMarco to take him in as management of Black & Latin action, proving himself by collecting $4000 from a cockfighting runner named Angel, but he actually told Angel (and later Lombard) he collected $6000. Lombard abruptly left a nightclub the three of them attended to "make a couple of calls", one of which was to Angel confirming Tubbs' amount, after which Lombard put his goons on DeMarco, watching his every move, and calls Tubbs for protection, which he provides--by taking him to OCB and offered to honor his immunity deal with Schroeder in exchange for getting incriminating evidence against Lombard on board the crime lord's yacht, and to sign a statement exonerating Crockett. Unfortunately, Lombard is too smart for DeMarco's attempted setup, and is about to take his former lieutenant below deck to "take him out" when Jerry Carrow busts in and kills DeMarco.
