The Gafsa was a canyon in the Jundland Wastes on Tatooine. In the Tusken language, the name meant the 'Waking Place', and according to the traditions of the Sand People recorded by Alkhara in the sixth century BBY, it was the location where they had first stepped forth on the planet. The Gafsa was of great importance to the Sand People, and merely trespassing could lead to a violent situation. The Gafsa was the location of a rare sacred Tusken water well, and in the years around the Invasion of Naboo, it was used as a bivouac by the Tusken clan led by Sharad Hett.
