Partly, because the flowers in the genera Cotoneaster, Heteromeles, and Pyracantha are completely apocarpous (with carpels free from each other), while the genus Dichotomanthes is perigynous (sepals, petals and stamens around the edge of the ovary) and has a superior ovary.
