| - The conflict arose as a result of the New Republic firmly opposing the new territorial demands made by Havelock Pahmus in early 23 ABY. Furthermore, lingering resentment from the controverial annexation of the Rimma Trade Route by the New Empire six years earlier only served to fuel the indignation of the militarist camp in the New Republic Senate. The New Republic adamantly refused the demands of the New Empire's leader, and with diplomatic relations breaking down, with neither side willing to back down, the New Empire officially declared war upon the New Republic in 23 ABY, marking the start of the Imperial-Republic War. The initial stages of the conflict saw a near continuous string of Imperial victories, but the war soon devolved into a massive slugging match for control of the prized Core Worlds at the end of the Corellian Run, with casualties mounting on both sides. After four years of bitter fighting that saw the Republic ousted from the Core, the Imperial forces finally lost the initiative; suffering humiliating defeats at Manaan, Mindor and Roche. At Tanaab, Admiral Ackbar routed an Imperial fleet and pursued it all the way to Eldrann, where both fleet decimated each other. With both the New Empire and the New Republic reeling from the bloodshed of the war's fourth year, Havelock Pahmus consolidated his forces in the Colonies and offered the New Republic an indefinite armistice, which the war-weary Republic government on Mon Calamari accepted. In 28 ABY, after almost a year of nervous cease-fire, representatives from both sides agreed to meet on neutral Onderon. There, Emperor Pahmus and Chief of State Fey'lya signed the Treaty of Iziz, officially bringing hostilities to an end and allowing peace to settle on a profoundly changed galaxy. The Republic survived the conflict with its influence and authority dramatically diminished, while the New Empire had been propelled from being a largely discounted rim-state to the position of dominant galactic power.
