- The next book in the series is Farmer Boy followed by Little House on the Prairie. In the Little House in the Big Woods, the reader is introduced to Laura, her older sister Mary, her baby sister Carrie and parents, Charles and Caroline Ingalls. The story is semi-autobiographical. It tells of living in a log cabin in the woods with no immediate neighbors. The book tells about some of the games the children played, their chores and how their parents worked to provide for the family.
- It is also one of the best-selling children's books of all time. In addition, it is the second best-selling book from the Little House series, with Little House on the Prairie being the first. Laura Ingalls Wilder was 65 years old when it was published as well.
