  • The Fleetwoods were a singing trio from Olympia, Washington in the late 1950s. They were responsible for eleven hit songs, beginning with "Come Softly To Me". The song was originally called "Come Softly", as written by Gretchen Christopher, original lead singer. Barbara Ellis harmonized and Gary Troxel accompanied with a scat backing. The song was vocally arranged in counterpoint by Gretchen Christopher. (Bonnie Guitar later arranged instrumental back-up.) The group was originally named Two Girls and a Guy, but both the title and group name were changed en route to the song's becoming a chart-topper.
