Apartheid was a South African hierarchical system based on the separation of blacks and other nonwhites from the whites who controlled South African society and government. Apartheid (literally apart-ness comes from the Afrikaans word meaning "separation," and is officially applied to the systematic government policies enacted by the ruling National Party, which was dominated primarily by Afrikaners (people of Dutch ancestry in South Africa). Apartheid officially existed as government policy in South Africa from 1948 until 1994.

The United States had a similar policy between the time slavery was banned in the 1860s and the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s though at least African Americans remained citizens. Those who supported apartheid in South Africa and in the United States appealed to the Bible. The Bible mythology states that Cane, son of Adam and Eve murdered his brother Able. Afterwards God marked Kane and his descendants. His descendants were unjustly cursed for their ancestor’s sin. White Christians looking for an excuse to treat black people as inferior claim that this mark was a dark skin. There is no reason to believe that, the Bible says nothing about what the mark was. Another piece of mythology is that after the Great flood Noah got drunk and got naked. His son Ham saw Noah naked and his descendants were [[cursed and marked. Again white Racists interpret the mark the way they like. If you really feel you must believe Bronze Age Mythology it's just as reasonable to imagine that the mark is a white skin. White supremacista also argued from long-standing tradition (see article on "Proof") to support their contention that non-white people were of lower intelligence and generally prone to a number of bad habits. Both countries also banned marriage between the races, claiming that such a union was against God's will. If you have noticed any similarity to the current conservative stance towards homosexuality and gay marriage, you must be a conspiracy theorist or a liberal.

The principle behind apartheid is that you make the smallest set of elements white and then associate a number of color and native elements to a single white element. Each white element is a single thread. Any right of access to a color or a native element is routed first through a white element. This methodology is termed 'White Oppression' since the white elements hide the data of the colored and native. There exists an allowance for clustering of data around the few white elements in any given system. Less maintenance and greater efficiency is found by changing ownership rights of any data owned by black or colored elements and unioning the set to a single white owner. This allows for separate, but equal ownership between all three sets. The process overall is sometimes termed "White Conquest".
