- Arthur Hewlett (born Southampton, 12th March 1907, died London, 25th February 1997) appeared in Coronation Street in July 1965 as Mr Spiderwick. His television career began in the late 1940s and he appeared in many programmes including BBC Sunday-Night Theatre, The Grove Family, Quatermass and the Pit, The Avengers, The Odd Man. The Saint, No Hiding Place, Castle Haven, Emmerdale Farm, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color , Crown Court, The Black Adder, Doctor Who and Screen Two. Film roles include Reach for Glory, One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing and Personal Services.

In science fiction, he was in the first installment of the serial Quatermass and the Pit (1959) and appeared on Doctor Who in two serials (1980's "State of Decay" and 1986's "Trial of a Time Lord") He performed in several Shakespeare broadcasts between 1964 and 1981, including the 1976 Romeo and Juliet (as Friar John) and served as a TV foil for comedians Tony Hancock, Eric Sykes, and puppet Basil Brush.

Other TV work included episodes of The Avengers, The Saint, the 1965 Sherlock Holmes series, Edward the King, The Cleopatras, and Blackadder (as the Archbishop of Canterbury and his twin brother in "Archbishop").
