Illix Shah-el was a Ssi-ruu mercenary active during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Illix Shah-el was the son of a high ranking Ssi-Ruu general named Krilix Shah-el and a Ssi-Ruu noble name Irza Lilsteris. From the time he could walk his father, Krilix, trained him in the military arts. Failure too live up to his fathers high standards was met with punishment, which usually consisted of brutal beatings or psychological torture. Because of his fathers harsh methods Shah-el became one of the most ruthless and skillful soldiers in the Ssi-Ruu military.

Illix Shah-el was the son of a high ranking Ssi-Ruu general named Krilix Shah-el and a Ssi-Ruu noble name Irza Lilsteris. From the time he could walk his father, Krilix, trained him in the military arts. Failure too live up to his fathers high standards was met with punishment, which usually consisted of brutal beatings or psychological torture. Because of his fathers harsh methods Shah-el became one of the most ruthless and skillful soldiers in the Ssi-Ruu military. Despite being constantly surrounded by Ssi-Ruuk xenophobia, Shah-el did not share the same contempt for the rest of the galaxy that his parents and the rest of his race did. Rather than hate Shah-el was curious about the other races of the galaxy. After years of planning he left Ssi-Ruuk society completely in 10 BBY, he stole a small hyperspace capable fighter and set a course for Xwhee also known as Bakura. Bakura would not be his final destination, he spent the next three years traveling the Mid-Rim working as hired muscle. In 7 BBY he arrived on the planet Yeshocq where he accepted a job from the crime lord Sonuu Ythiae. It was on this job that he met Tommy Randor who later became a dear friend and powerful ally, this was also the same job that became known as the Yeshocq Debacle among the Imperial soldiers. Shah-el's father, Krilix, was not about to let his prodigy go. Shortly after his escape from Ssi-Ruuk society his father dispatched a team of Ssi-Ruuk special forces to bring his son back to Ssi-Ruuk space.
