Daniel Allan Cryer is a former Staff Sergeant who deserted the United States Marine Corps and became a mercenary instead, going by the name of "Daniel Shalev". A series of events later led him to ending up on the SS Damocles where he met Mossad Officer Ziva David. Unfortunately, Cryer like most of the ship's personnel was killed by Malachi Ben-Gidon and Cryer's mangled body was later found by two fishermen brothers with his remains being brought back to NCIS for an autopsy which soon forced Ziva to recall what had happened while she was on the ship.
