HOW does Shadow make that match pic and not Tails? Ugh. Anyway, everyone (except Lopen, but he doesn't count) knew that Sonic had this match won with ease. The issue was what his percentage would end up being, given that Sonic and Dante had a match once. Sonic scored 62.03% on him in said match. One could assume, based on how much stock you put into series versus characters, that Sonic going well above or well below that 62.03% standard could set off warning signals one way or the other. After all, this match had little if anything to do with Devil May Cry; all eyes were on Sonic vs Smash Brothers, especially given how gaming's newer series were tanking in this contest left and right.

As expected, Sonic went out and whipped Devil May Cry's ass. Sonic was near 80% during the initial surge, and though he would quickly level off to winning by just under 71%, his beating of DMC here couldn't exactly go ignored. Matches featuring Dante see very little in terms of percentage swing, so Sonic's percentage stalling and leveling quickly was to be expected. That said, he went well over that 62.03% mentioned earlier. Cause for concern for SSB? I mean, Halo tanked. GTA tanked. DMC tanked. Small/recent series were bombing all over the place, and one can assume that the Sonic > SSB bandwagon would have gained a ton of steam had Smash gone out and tanked against Dragon Quest. Or maybe Nintendo would prove to be immune to such things, who knows. But enough analysis and more laughing at Lopen, posthaste!
