Ugrinn is a Vor, with the blue eyes and darker skin common in the Fairsea. He stands slightly taller than the average of his species, and is always bejewelled- he likes shiny things, and golden torques are harder to steal than a wallet. Background The Vor have no murderers. Their prisons were largely honour-based, not designed to actually hold captives, and the idea of execution was abhorrent to them. Ugrinn was forced onto a ship bound for Nar Shaddaa, exiled. If he ever returned, he would be considered enemy of the people and slain.Family

  • Ugrinn is a Vor, with the blue eyes and darker skin common in the Fairsea. He stands slightly taller than the average of his species, and is always bejewelled- he likes shiny things, and golden torques are harder to steal than a wallet. Background Ugrinn, like most Vor, was born on the homeworld Vortex. Specifically on the Fairsea Islands, far south of the main population around the Cathedral of the Winds. It was a sweet life, and quiet. The village was small grass yurts, mainly living by fishing and gathering the huge eggs of nesting seabirds. Born into this peaceful town on a peaceful planet was Ugrinn, to a fishing family which was well respected and liked. As he grew though, it became obvious that something was wrong about him, something broken. He never played with the others. Instead he crouched in the shallows of the marsh, deadly still, all day. When an animal swam past, Ugrinn, still a child, would lash forward with his beak and kill it. If he was hungry he would tip his head back and swallow. Mostly he threw the limp corpse on the shore- keeping count. On the wing he stalked smaller children. From high above he would fall on them like a hawk. As they clawed at him he would drag them down, screaming, only releasing them at the last possible second. Even this might have been forgiven as youthful exuberance - the Vor are a generous-hearted people - if it weren't for his singing. All Vor sing, they sing when they work, they sing whenever they're not speaking. Theirs is the song of Vortex, that they cast unceasing to the tempests of their world. Most species agree their music is lovely, showing all the emotions inscrutable from their faces and subtle body language. Ugrinn sang too, and just as often as the others. But his voice was like an eel in the reeds, sliding and hunting, lashing out in screaming trills. Beautiful, yes, still beautiful. But unbearable. Sometimes a child was born like him, cold-eyed and harsh. There was a prescribed reaction. They called him Deadsong, and shunned him. By the time he was fourteen, Ugrinn played no more cruel games. He hardly frequented the village, and then only to buy things he needed. He perched alone in the forests, more or less content. One night he was approached by a young couple, the male of which was looking to prove something or other to the female. He called names, made threats. It might have happened at any time, for any other reason, but that was the night. His gaze was cold on them. Ugrinn asked himself: Why should I, who acts in all other ways as an animal, show mercy now? And that was that. He fell on them both, swift and brutal, and left them both to rot in the marshes beneath his perch. Nor did he bother to conceal his deed. He ate their eyes first, and for two days continued to sit above them before he was discovered. The Vor have no murderers. Their prisons were largely honour-based, not designed to actually hold captives, and the idea of execution was abhorrent to them. Ugrinn was forced onto a ship bound for Nar Shaddaa, exiled. If he ever returned, he would be considered enemy of the people and slain. Since then he has wandered the galaxy, incurious, looking only for the next hunt. He became a bounty hunter of some note, then a pit fighter, then a pirate on an old YT frigate. Deadsong had a ring to it, so it became his name in the ports and the stations, and the bosses would whisper it when they needed killing done quick and cheap. All jobs are the same to him, and none are too dirty.Family Ugrinn's family still live on Vortex, mother, father and extended brethren. He has contact with none of them, and if he did they probably wouldn't speak to him.
