The Third Pacific War was a war that lasted from 1968 to 1976. It originally started when Annamese Unification groups sought to unite Annam with Cochinchina and Tonkin through any means possible. The Front for Viet Unification, which was based out of Annam and proposed the united Vietnam from the three nations, received help from the Inodchinese Freedom Front, an organization with bases all over Indochina. After three failures at diplomatic negotiations, Annam declared war on Tonkin, Cochinchina, and Khmeristan. • The Third Pacific War was a war that lasted from 1968 to 1976. The IFA began to disrupt internal functions of the three nations, allowing the FVU to capture Tonkin and Cochinchina. In 1969, Australasia declared support for the defense. This prompted Van Diemenia to support Annam. War did not erupt in the Australasian continent, but naval warfare between the two nations was frequent. In 1971, France declared war on Van Diemenia and Annam, sending troops to aid in the defense from Annam. Japan responded with a declared of war on Australasia, after which Novorossiya followed suit. Japan and Novorossiya held the French Navy at bay, and cut the flow of French aid to Khmeristan. In 1973, the United States announced that it was joining the war on the side of Khmeristan. The Japanese and American navies engaged in a few minor battles in the Pacific Ocean, but the threat of nuclear devastation kept both sides from directly engaging the other. In the same year, East China and Russia sent troops to help Annam, while West China began to attack Russia and East China in early 1974. The war ended in 1976 after India invited all sides to sign a peace treaty. The major powers (Russia, the United States, France, Japan) ceased intervention, while Australasia and Van Diemenia, and East and West China, would pull out of the greater war. Annam was later forced to retreat from all of its neighboring nations, and the unification organizations were disbanded. The war is often cited as the closest time nuclear war erupted.
