| - Cassandra: "...Why does everyone I care about die?" Stephanie. "Because...you care about everybody. And everybody dies." Life and death maintain a tenuous balance at the edge of the Lazarus Pit. A major character has died. Now a battle must be fought between two old foes...and only one will survive. We're not giving away any secrets, except to say that this is the end of Batgirl! Summary of Stephness: Stephanie continues to tell Cassandra about how her father, David Cain, killed Lady Shiva's sister so she could reach her full potential as a fighter, and carry Cassandra as Cain's child. Cassandra interrupts Stephanie's "story" with a shout that she has to go back. Stephanie grabs her arm and says sadly, "I'm sorry, Cassandra. But the Mad Dog killed you. That's it. End of story. Trust me, these things never end the way you want them too." Cassandra protests, saying Blüdhaven needs her, and Stephanie tells her it doesn't anymore. Cassandra continues to protest, until Stephanie interrupts her harshly, and says, "Blüdhaven's gone," and gestures to the Blüdhaven of the future, a nuclear wasteland, with Cass's friends Zero and Brenda's bodies among the rubble. She tells a horrified Cassandra that the Secret Society of Super Villains was responsible for the "kinda-sorta a crisis." Cassandra is devastated by this, realizing she and other heroes had the opportunity to kill them and stop this tragedy, and a tear trickles down her face as she declares, "I'm no hero..." The tear turns to fire and Stephanie yells, "Cassandra, what's-?" but Cass is dissolved away from the afterlife and her close friend, and rises out of the Lazarus pit, resurrected once again by Lady Shiva.
