  • One of the main powers of the Hōgyoku, is Desire Materialization. The Hōgyoku can absorb the desires of those beings around it and manifest them into a reality. However, it can only manifest the desires of those with the strength to act on them. Orihime was always protected by Tatsuki, thus making her feel powerless. When her friend was attacked, her inherent desire to protect her friend and defend herself allowed the Hōgyoku to manifest the Shun Shun Rikka (盾舜六花, Six Flowers of the Hibiscus Shield) as she no longer wanted to feel powerless anymore. The Hōgyoku absorbed these desires after Orihime met Rukia, within whom the Hōgyoku resided, hidden where it absorbed Orihime's desires and later manifested them.
