The Fort Knox Fire Department is responsible for protecting the 109,000+ acre military installation of Fort Knox, including the famous United States Bullion Depository. The department responds to over 2,000 calls for service per year. The Fort Knox Fire Department was formally organized in 1918. As many as thirteen fire stations were present on the base in the 1940s.
