The Hill Valley Preservation Society was an organization in Hill Valley. In 1985, Mayor Goldie Wilson was sponsoring an initiative to have the clock inside the courthouse's clock tower either repaired or saved. The Society demanded that it be saved as it was in the same condition, with the hands still pointed to 10:04 p.m., to preserve history and heritage. On October 25, 1985, one of its representatives could be seen collecting donations to "Save the Clock Tower".

On this occasion, Terry was going around Courthouse Square with a portable thumb unit, asking people for donations.
