After watching a commercial for an all-terrain vehicle, Phineas Flynn decided that he and Ferb Fletcher could build a better model - one that could drive on literally any type of surface. It was built with an electromagnetic motor, super rubber tank treads, a high speed ceramic body, hydraulics, an old remote control, and a rocket mode ("The Secret of Success"). A recreation of the ATV was later used to repel 2nd Dimension Heinz Doofenshmirtz's invasion of the Tri-State Area (Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension).

  • The term "All-Terrain Vehicle" or ATV is used in a general sense to describe any of a number of small open motorized Buggy and tricycles designed for off-road use. However, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) defines an ATV as a vehicle that travels on low pressure tires, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, and with handlebars for steering control. By the current ANSI definition, it is intended for use by a single operator, although a change to include 2-seaters (in tandem) is under consideration.
  • The ATV is the fastest ground vehicle in Red Faction. The ATV provides decent protection against bullets, however, missiles are very effective against it. It has the machine gun mounted on the back, but it can't be used while driving unless another person is operating the vehicle. Two can be found in Red Faction, one in the Martian Canyon and another near the entrance to Capek's Zoo.

In Red Faction II, a wheel-less ATV can be located outside of a burning warehouse, during an attack on the Citadel. More of these ATV's can be located during the Second Martian Uprising, stunned across the various sectors of mars.

The rider sits on and operates these vehicles like a motorcycle, but the extra wheels give more stability at slow speeds. Although typically equipped with three or four wheels, six-wheel models exist for specialized applications. Engine sizes of ATVs currently for sale in the United States (as of 2007) range from 50cc to 800cc.
