Formenos was the stronghold city of the House of Fëanor in the hills north of Valinor, in Aman.

- Formenos era la città fondata da Fëanor e dai suoi figli nel nord di Valinor,dopo che questi furono esiliati da Tirion a seguito delle minacce rivolte da Fëanor al fratellastro Fingolfin nella piazza della città. La città fu abitata per dodici anni degli alberi (tra i 60 e gli 80 anni solari) da Fëanor e dai suoi familiari tra cui anche il padre Finwë. La città fu attaccata e gravemente danneggiata da Melkor durante l'Ottenebramento di Valinor, ed è ignoto se dopo la fuga dei Noldor sia ancora abitata o meno.

Wraz z nim osiedliła się tam większość Ñoldorów, włącznie z ojcem Fëanora, królem Ñoldorów - Finwëm. Był to również skarbiec Fëanora, gdzie trzymał najcenniejsze ze swoich dzieł, w tym trzy Silmarile, a także jedno z niewielu miejsc w Valinorze, gdzie wyrabiano i trzymano broń i zbroje. To właśnie w Formenos Melkor zabił Finwëgo w czasie swojej ucieczki na północ, dokonując w ten sposób pierwszego przelewu krwi w Amanie.

Er hatte Fingolfin, seinen Halbbruder mit dem Schwert bedroht. Den größten Teil der Feste nahm das sogenannte Schatzhaus ein, wo alle Wertgegenstände des Hauses Finwe aufbewahrt wurden. Darunter auch drei von ganz besonderem Wert, nämlich die Silmaril. Große Teile der Festung wurden zerstört, als Melkor eindrang, die drei Silmaril entwendete und Finwe erschlug. Die Festung wurde 1495 E.Z. verlassen und von da an wagte sich kaum jemand auch nur in ihre Nähe.
