In -verse theory, an incompatible being is a lifeform, whether sapient or nonsapient, that functions on an entirely different set of physical and mathematical laws (compared with the environment or -verse in question), to the point where if it would be introduced into said environment, it would immediately cause a paradox or disruptive event so great that the -verse would be destroyed. (To summarize: two beings that cannot interact with each others' environments without completely ruining them are said to be "incompatible".)

Communication between sets of incompatible beings is possible but no actual information can be transferred in doing so. Generally, the only way to accomplish anything meaningful in terms of communication, without destroying either being's home -verse, is to relay their messages through a third -verse or reality altogether that is safely compatible with both. It is possible that any lifeforms in any pair of universes could be incompatible. Generally speaking, though, the rate of incompatibility remains low at the multiversal scale, assuming that a multiverse's universes all develop similar characteristics. It increases at the abstract levels of megaverses and archverses, which are less and less related to each other as one ascends. (To summarize: two beings that cannot interact with each others' environments without completely ruining them are said to be "incompatible".)
