  • An Federal Election for the members of the Australian Parliament took place on 4 October 2053. They were the first to take place following the full implementation of the Dissolution Acts which allowed Andrew Burges to take near-absolute power over parliament. The incumbent Australian Nationalist Party returned with a number of parliamentary seats and popular votes, whilst the official opposition Democratic Party (now led by former Shadow Treasurer Donald Turnbull) returned with a greater reduced number of seats, as well as a miniscule popular vote count, effectively ending the period of second party politics and ensuring Australia would become a de facto one-party state.
