- A waiver of property and profit or WP&P was a legal document used in Ferengi society prior to a wedding. The waiver stated that, in the event the marriage ended, the female gave up any and all claim to her husband's estate. That included any money or property, as Ferengi females were prohibited by law from earning money or owning property. According to Star Trek: Celebrations, Waivers of Property and Profit became antiquated by the time of "Profit and Lace" when Grand Nagus Zek amended the Ferengi Bill of Opportunities.

The waiver stated that, in the event the marriage ended, the female gave up any and all claim to her husband's estate. That included any money or property, as Ferengi females were prohibited by law from earning money or owning property. In 2373, Rom wanted to get his fiancé Leeta to sign such a document. He feared Leeta would be like his first wife Prinadora, whose father cheated Rom out of all his money, and who eventually left him for a richer man. Leeta refused to sign such an agreement, which briefly resulted in the cancellation of the wedding, but Rom rendered the WP&P unnecessary by giving all his money to the Bajoran War Orphans Fund. (DS9: "Ferengi Love Songs") According to Star Trek: Celebrations, Waivers of Property and Profit became antiquated by the time of "Profit and Lace" when Grand Nagus Zek amended the Ferengi Bill of Opportunities.

(DS9 episode: "Ferengi Love Songs") By 2376, Rom, now Grand Nagus, had introduced a number of reforms within the Ferengi Alliance, one of which declared all prenuptial Waivers of Property and Profit being null and void. To the horror of some Ferengi, some of the females were even beginning to hire lawyers to renegotiate their marriage contracts. (DS9 novel: Ferenginar: Satisfaction is Not Guaranteed)
