Bactria was originally founded by soldiers from Alexander the Great's armies, who mingled with the local population. The bulk of the population was converted to Shinto by missionaries from the Kamakura shogunate in 1302. Other religions are tolerated and fundamentalist Islam is making a comeback. The Shinto element and the rough terrain have combined to keep the tribes largely isolated from neighboring cultural influences. Ancient Bactria was in the general area of the northern part of Afghanistan. Modern Bactria lies in territory claimed by Pakistan (Balochistan region), but dipomatic relations are in fact relatively cordial at this time. Bactria is strongly supported by the Grey Council and is developing into a regional power with their support.

Bactria is strongly supported by the Grey Council and is developing into a regional power with their support. The population is mixed, about half Pashtun, 30% Tajik, as well as Hazara, Kurdish, and a variety of other ethnicities. Tajiks dominate in the government and their language (Dari) is the official language of the state.
