The Instant Handbrake powerup is an enhancement to the car's handbrake. Now, pressing the handbrake key will make the car lose all momentum, stopping instantly. This powerup is useful when a wall approaches and there isn't enough time to brake, and recovering to safety can be a pain in the wallet. Pressing the handbrake key will make sure the player is stopped and unharmed. A technique that can be used with this powerup is that, when in a dangerous spinning jump, the player might be approaching the ground, only to realize they might land on their roof. The player can then simply activate the handbrake, and the car will stop above the ground, but will continue to spin. Letting the car spin gently, the time to release the handbrake is when the wheels face the ground. This technique doesn't work in Carmageddon TDR 2000, as the car also stops spinning.
