R'en Kyyrnor was born in 110,034 B.C. to Arykton and Mllenu Kyyrnor. Arkyton was a soldier in the war against the Flood but was killed and consumed by them. R'en grew older and joined the military, soon being augmented by the ancient human's supersoldier serum similar to the Spartan augmentation. R'en became a legendary figure in the war against the Forerunners, and eventually he came to their homeworld and aided in a significant battle against the Ur-Didact that ended in the Didact's imprisonment. However, during this battle, R'en was composed and became a Promethean Knight. When the Didact became imprisoned, R'en was freed from control, and looked for the Amethyst Gem, which could turn him back to human form.

At some time after the battle, R'en entered a type of sleep tube for several hundred thousand years, past the firing of the halo array. His current status is unknown, and it is not known whether he cured himself and turned human again. R'en is also said to have been part of another major Forerunner-related about 100,000 years ago, but details of it are secret until the release of 2014's Xbox One Halo game.
