- Ista Island is one of the largest islands on Pern, and home to both Ista Hold and Weyr. It was originally called Bitkim Island after the colonists who claimed it as their stake, Avril Bitra and Stev Kimmer. The fisher and Dolphineer were thinking of turning into a harbor. It was also used to store the ships that were not going to be used after the Second Crossing in a cave on the eastern end that Ozzie Munson said the water was deep even at low tide. It acted to shelter the Big Bay in which it was located from storms, and its tropical climate was very similar to that of the Southern Continent.
