Tatum wears it slung over her left shoulder with a thick blue cord. Spirit: Alphyn is an agendered spirit that resembles a creature seen on some British coats of arms. It has the face and build of a stocky wolf, and is as tall as Tatum at the shoulder. Alphyn's front legs resemble blue dragon legs, and its back legs resemble a lion's. Alphyn's fur is a dark grey, except on its ears and tail, which are white. Alphyn also has a long dragon's tongue, and its tail is a little longer than its body, and has several knots in it. Finally, Alphyn's eyes are gold, and resemble an eagle's. Alphyn has a subdued intensity to its personality, and doesn't speak much. It is rather manipulative and power-hungry, and once manipulated Tatum into making her contract. Before the incident that lost Tatum her vision, Alphyn was convinced that his kind should rule over humans, and worked to undermine Tatum's control. However, when it did, it was promptly stopped in its tracks and Tatum was severely injured. This allowed her to have a long, uninterrupted conversation with Alphyn, where they learned much about one another. Currently, Alphyn works simply to guard Tatum, and is ashamed of its past actions. Because of this, it rarely speaks or shows emotion, and Tatum describes it as having a statue residing in her inner world.
