Lessard started his National Hockey League career with the Los Angeles Kings in 1978. He would play his entire NHL career with the Kings. He retired after the 1984 season. He played major junior with the Sherbrooke Castors and was chosen by the Kings 154th overall in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft. Lessard turned pro that year and played four seasons in the minors. After this season his game entered a steep decline. He became a part-timer and spent time in the minors. Lessard retired in 1984.
