Barkeep runs a shop Yuna can buy curative items and accessories from. He also gives the option to rest, and, although the save spheres completely heal the party, resting does have a function. If the party rests once per chapter, after resting for the final time an extra cutscene is played showing Brother and Barkeep talking about Brother's infatuation with Yuna, and Barkeep reveals he has a partner called Darling, much to Brother's dismay. From this point, players can rename the animals that appear when using the Trainer dressphere.

The Tavern Landlord paced back and fourth behind the bar and refused to serve Kain a drink after dark, throwing him out to the night and sealing his fate. Shortly afterward, the town was barricaded and Kain was attacked and killed by brigands sent by Mortanius. Kain encountered the Tavern Landlord once more as he returned to the Tavern as a Vampire, where Kain could kill his patrons but not the Landlord himself; unless by the use of a Flay. It was left to the player's discretion whether Kain would return later, when he collected more powerful incantations, to take revenge.
