Two forward-facing eyes were situated midway up their face, with a thick nostril tapering down from beneath each eye socket and ending just above the upper jaw. A large lipless mouth with large upper teeth gave the appearance of an overbite; their lower jaw rested flat against the underside of their skulls. With tympanic membranes for hearing, Draethos face was otherwise covered in small, barely detectable scales. Draethos had a three-chambered heart consisting of two atria, one variably partitioned ventricle, and two aortas that lead to systemic circulation of oxygen-rich blood. A cold-blooded species, their body temperature was determined by their environment: though their warm planet allowed them to go for extended periods of time without consuming anything of sustenance. Tightly muscled, Draethos had little fat cells to insulate themselves, and so they could not live a sedentary life. A herbivorous race, the Draethos used their teeth to chew cud and store it within their three stomachs for later digestion. Draethos had two sexes: male and female, with the latter being distinguished by their overall smaller stature and lighter coloration. Members of the Draethos race could not interbreed naturally with any other race. Despite overall physiological uniformity, Draethos varied greatly in appearance, and no two looked exactly alike. One of the diversity factors was height. Draethos averaged 1.8 meters in height, although males were usually taller and heavier than females. A diurnal species, the Draethos had evolved to see in low-light environments, a natural aspect springing from their cave-dwelling ancestors. They had black, pupils with color vision and advanced visual depth perception as well. Draethos were sexually-reproduced animals, requiring the mating of an opposite sex couple to produce offspring. Draethos mated through the insertion of a male penis into the female vagina wherein her eggs were fertilized. According to the Tenants of Strength and Vitality, the legal transition from childhood to adulthood was only attained after eighteen standard years of life. Draethos had an average lifespan of 750 standard years. Those who were keenly attuned to the Force could live up to 1,000. At any rate, individuals past the age of 781 were considered to have reached an age worthy of veneration. Natural signs of ageing in Draethos included the dulling of the skin, the loss of teeth and scales, and slowing of motor function. Old Draethos would experience a decline in many cognitive processes, frequently losing track of time, misidentifying people or places and, in extreme cases, momentarily forgetting about their own identity or state.
