He is optimistic by nature, at the expense of added naivety and apparent innocence. Papyrus may seem like an oblivious creature at times, but is in fact capable of cunning mental twisters including reverse psychology. His “armor” is in fact a costume he fashioned for himself, and he hasn’t taken it off since it was made. He does have the decency to wash it, though--by wearing it in the shower.
