| - I was wondering, I thought and think it over twice. I should ask for clarification on this new image addition from other Avatar related sources idea. the idea is that here should be new policy to be added within the Image policy regarding those avatar-related source images. besides, I'd like to say any input on this is needed. I'd give example if needed. Cassandra Saturn (wall • contribs) 06:55, September 16, 2014 (UTC) sure, i'll do that LL. pephaps it could be resolved through this. | - I was wondering, I thought and think it over twice. I should ask for clarification on this new image addition from other Avatar related sources idea. the idea is that here should be new policy to be added within the Image policy regarding those avatar-related source images. the reason I created this is because I'd like to upload some IMVU avatar-related images on Avatar Wiki. I'm just not sure how would they appear to you on my own IMVU pages only better if they were resized in a page first after upload. I'd like to know if here would be a policy that classify what is acceptable for such images. besides, I'd like to say any input on this is needed. I'd give example if needed. Cassandra Saturn (wall • contribs) 06:55, September 16, 2014 (UTC) I don't know what IMVU is, but I don't see the need to alter the image policy just to allow the uploading of images to be used for what I can only assume to be complete personal goals, like profile pages or blog posts. The image policy is how it is to avoid the upload of a plethora of images. In the end, it is still a copyright infringement to use copyright protected images without the agreement of the creators (which is, for example, the reason why Disney shuts down so many sites that host screenshots of Disney movies). Any personal introduction can suffice with images that are already on the wiki or via hotlinking to photobucket or something. 08:19, September 16, 2014 (UTC) IMVU is social 3D Avatar Chat Program that we use often, they're similar to Second Life, but very different. IMVU has best graphics, no lag problem like SL does for most users. we use IMVU for many things like to dress up as whoever you want to be, like to be Avatar Korra. including many looks/outfits you can buy via shop. IMVU also comes with built in photo camera for your photo albums. I'd share example right now but I forgot how to hotlink. it's been while since I have done so. Cassandra Saturn (wall • contribs) 10:34, September 16, 2014 (UTC) So it basically serves no other purpose than a social one, which goes against the intent of this site to be the most inclusive Avatar encyclopaedia as well as a fanon portal. I don't see the need to allow the uploading of images for any other purpose than those two, so I remain with my initial opposition of allowing such images to be uploaded. That said, feel free to use them as you own personal avatar image or {{hotlink<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>}} up to three images max on your profile. Also, our {{user infobox<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>}} is coded in such a manner that a direct url in the parameter where you'd normally upload an image will display the image as well without actually uploading it on the wiki. This should suffice to display some more personal touches to your profile. 10:40, September 16, 2014 (UTC) social? I think you're missing the point. Avatar Wiki's not intended to be the "social encyclopedia" for that reason. the problem with hotlinking is that it never works for me, no matter what site I upload for a image to be hotlinked. it doesn't show up in preview. not even PB. unless here's problem with hotlink setup I don't even know where to begin. Cassandra Saturn (wall • contribs) 11:06, September 16, 2014 (UTC) I'm not saying that Avatar Wiki should become a social venue, quite the opposite even. I just fail to see why we should amend the policy just to allow images that would be solely uploaded to ... what? Spruce up a profile? A blog post about their lives? I see no beneficial need for that for this wiki. As for how to hotlink, all you need to do is create a free account on photobucket and post a direct link to the image on a page and it'll show up. It has worked thus far, I see no reason why it wouldn't for you. 11:28, September 16, 2014 (UTC) for the Avatar Wiki, not for my profile or a blog. but for a page I already have not updated since its creation a few months ago, it's called IMVU Korra and as you can see, here are no images hotlinked to that page. I do have a PB account, but for some reason, links don't work here. that's why I'm wondering why it doesn't on my end. Cassandra Saturn (wall • contribs) 11:40, September 16, 2014 (UTC) I still fail to see the need to adapt a policy that is there for a good purpose just so you can upload some images to a page in your user space. There is just no need for that. As for why the hotlinking doesn't work for you, I have no idea, because it works for me and every other user I have seen using the template. 11:44, September 16, 2014 (UTC) I have tried different links from my PB to my website's photo links to be hotlinked it just simply doesn't show up in the preview. for the policy, I did't mean adapt, but adding new set of rules. sorry that I did't make it clear or clarify it more regarding the images of new kind. I have hard time trying to mean what I'm saying. please disregard the idea, I don't think it's important now. but thank you very much for discussing this topic with me. even regarding the hotlink issue. I have to figure it out how to resolve it. Cassandra Saturn (wall • contribs) 11:55, September 16, 2014 (UTC) Adding something to the policy is adapting it. As for the hotlinking, why don't you add the url to the hotlink template on that page you were talking about and then other coders could perhaps help figure it out what's wrong. 12:13, September 16, 2014 (UTC) sure, i'll do that LL. pephaps it could be resolved through this.
