abstract
| - The Commonwealth of Scotland is a sovereign nation occupying the northern third of the island of Great Britain, it shares a border with England to the south and is bounded by the North Sea to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north, and the Irish Sea to the west. In addition to the mainland, Scotland includes over 790 isles including the Northern Isles and the Outer and Inner Hebrides. Scotland was a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland until 2007, when the country's independentist party the Scottish National Party, received a majority from the general electorate. The state broke away from the UK, and immediately joined the European Union with full membership. The country used Pounds Sterling alongside the Euro until 2 March 2009, when it (de jure) only accepted Euros. In 2011, Scotland sold its Trident missiles to the United States of America, stating they wanted no more involvement in Nuclear weaponry. The country was a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and NATO, from creation, until the 5 June 2011, when it simultaneously withdrew from both organizations. In the same year Scotland joined the Non-Aligned Group.
