  • by user Tqcincinnatus There's a great article today in the New York Post addressing an aspect of the science behind the Earth's climate change/control which we rarely hear mentioned by Al Gore or any of the other Chicken Littles. - Not That Simple, by Roy W. Spencer. Now, your average global warming enthusiast will think that Dr. Spencer (whose bio states that he " is principal research scientist at the Global Hydrology and Climate Center of the National Space Science and Technology Center in Huntsville, Ala. He is also U.S. team leader for the AMSR-E instrument flying on NASA's Terra satellite ") is some sort of right-wing Dittohead who makes a lot of money shilling for big oil. If you're Ellen Goodman, you might even think Dr. Spencer is tantamount to a Holocaust-denier. However, he makes some sound scientific points about nature's own temperature regulatory system, based upon the precipitation cycle, that really make you question why we don't hear about that particular aspect of the science from the alarmists. Is it because "global warming research" is big money for a number of parties involved? Environmentalist groups, if they can scare you into thinking the earth will turn into a hot, uninhabitable oven full of hurricanes unless you give them lots and lots of contributions, stand to reap in lots of money that can then be passed on to left-wing politicians in the form of campaign contributions and soft money influence. Many climatologists and scientists in allied fields bring in huge research grants to study "the global warming problem" - grants which would be endangered if it turned out that global warming wasn't really as man-made or as dangerous as is now thought. Global warming may or may not be manmade. It may or may not even be a problem at all. The current approach to the issue - that of tossing out "hockey-stick" charts using cooked data to scare a largely scientifically-illiterate public - is irresponsible, to say the least. Further, environmentalists remind me of those slick, fast-talking, high-pressure used-car salesmen our parents warned us about. If someone tells you that you absolutely, positively, HAVE to made a decision RIGHT NOW (not LATER, but NOW!) or else you're going to miss out and ruin everything, chances are you are being snookered. It's time to stop letting the environmentalists snooker the public, and its time to start demanding that ALL the scientific facts and arguments be made accessible by the news media and the interest groups. __NOEDITSECTION__ From The Opinion Wiki, a Wikia wiki.
