U.G writes in a slightly ironic and lighthearted tone and makes several, somewhat humourous and slightly disturbing, comments ("Poor Gloomeyes was confused by the Umber Hulk's gaze and chopped his own legs off...") about how he has lost travelling companions to the dangers of Neverlight.
