The Saami Unified Orthography is a complex project underway to develop a unified orthography in both Latin and Cyrillic alphabets for the six Saami languages (South, North, Lule, Inari, Skolt, and Kildin) spoken in Uralica, despite the fact that in the past they have used many different orthographies. Contrastive length in these two orthographies is a simple doubling of the letter. At the beginning of a word, only the first character of a double-letter is capitalised.

| - The Saami Unified Orthography is a complex project underway to develop a unified orthography in both Latin and Cyrillic alphabets for the six Saami languages (South, North, Lule, Inari, Skolt, and Kildin) spoken in Uralica, despite the fact that in the past they have used many different orthographies. Contrastive length in these two orthographies is a simple doubling of the letter. At the beginning of a word, only the first character of a double-letter is capitalised. * - denotes letters only used in borrowings. # - denotes letters that never occur at the beginning of a word. DNE - denotes a grapheme that doesn't exist in that particular language It should be noted that, in the new Cyrillic transcription, no Saami language uses the combination letters Я, Ё, or Ю. Cyrillic adopted the Å character from the North Germanic languages for the purposes of this orthographic program.
