Kawaru, or the Book of Changes, was a scroll written by Isawa Teruyo in the 3rd century. The account it was said to be infallible, but interpretation was difficult. The actual scroll of the Kawaru was quite slim, but volumes had been dedicated to its interpretation. Wise women known as itako dedicated themselves to translating the results of Kawaru castings.
