  • James Buchanan was the President of the United States who immediately preceded Abraham Lincoln. Paul LeVal wrote to Will Johnson on 19 December 1860, and opined that Buchanan was "perceived as being friendlier to the South than Mr. Lincoln". LeVal hoped that Buchanan might find a way to stave off war before Lincoln's inauguration. (PROSE: Blood and Hope)

  • James Buchanan (1804-1870), minister and theologian, was ordained in the Church of Scotland in 1827. In 1828 he commenced a very successful ministry at North Leith where he gained a great reputation as an earnest and eloquent preacher of the Word of God. In 1845 he was appointed to the Chair of Apologetics at New College, Edinburgh, and in 1847 he succeeded Chalmers as Professor of Systematic Theology. He retired in 1868 and died two years later. Buchanan supported Slavery despite being a Northerner. James Buchanan was considered one of the worst Presidents of the United States. Later Buchanan supported Lincoln during the Civil War. Buchanan vacillated saying and doing first one thing then another. Civil War didn't quite happen during the Buchanan presidency but started soon after.
  • James Buchanan was the only President to never marry (his niece fulfilled the duties of First Lady). He was engaged to a woman at one point, but they broke up and she died (likely suicide) shortly after. Although each of the three previous Presidents had played a part in creating the circumstances that led to the Civil War (Zachary Taylor's belligerent approach to the slave states got things off on the wrong foot, Millard Fillmore created an ultimately ill-advised compromise agreement, and Franklin Pierce proceeded to piss off the slave states by breaking the terms of said agreement), the final, fatal lurch towards the conflict happened on Buchanan's watch.
  • James Buchanan was born on July 21, 2599 to George Buchanan and Margaret McAfee in the Region of Hulstria of Greater Hulstria. Buchanan is married to Mary McAleese and has three sons; James, Alexander, and Zacchaeus. In June 2662 he committed suicide after the huge defeat of his party, which was interpreted by the VFA as a sign that the Hulstrians have no interest in rights. The full circumstances surrounding the suicide remain unknown. Close friend and justice adviser, Kenzo Noda succeeded Buchanan as the Chairwoman of the VFA. His son, Zacchaeus became the new Vice Chairman.
  • James Buchanan. (April 23, 1791 – June 1, 1868) was the 15th President of the United States (1857–1861) and the last to be born in the 18th century. To date he is the only President from Pennsylvania and is the only never to marry. As president he was a "dogface" (a Northerner with Southern sympathies) who battled Stephen A. Douglas for control of the Democratic Party. As Southern states declared their secession in the lead-up to the American Civil War, he held that secession was illegal but that going to war to stop it was also illegal and hence remained inactive. His inability to avert the Civil War has subsequently been assessed as the worst single failure by any President of the United States Buchanan has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the worst Presidents.
