| - Mac Messenger is an application for connecting to the MSN Messenger network. Mac Messenger Classic version 3.4 is the latest stable release for Classic. A newer version is available, but it unexpectedly quits often. Version 3.3f has unicode capabilities and so can display accented characteres. It is also stable. The drawback is that is has a small chat windows. This version is recommended for who chats in accented languages. It is available on Echelon Downloads. Mac Messenger, Started by Jef "Echelon" Geskens when he was 16 years old and continued together with Vidal "Marius_Th" van Bergen, is a client for the MSN instant messaging protocol. You can use it to chat with your friends who have MSN Messenger®. Mac Messenger is intended to be fast, stable, and easy to use, by Mac OS X AND Mac OS 8.x to 9.2.2 users! Current Version: Mac Messenger 3.5.4 Requirements: Mac OS 8.6 and later, CarbonLib or 10.1 and later [Taken from Echelon Boards:] The worst Mac Messengers are version 3.0a2 and 1.x . Why? Lets start with 3.0a2. It included a little application without an interface called "loginnet.app" which handles the login part. When signing in, that little app starts up, does his thing, and then quits. The funny part is that this app didn't quit at all and stays in your memory. Very bad. But it was only an experiment . Versions 1.x were very bad because the interface was very slow and it just sucked. And there was only the option of chatting. It doesn't even work anymore, due to the protocol changes but that is Microsofts fault, not mine . The best version is, in my opinion was Mac Messenger 2.6.x. It has a very clean interface and it even had File Transfer (sucky but it sometimes worked!). File Transfer is a very difficult thing to program. And to make it worse, Microsoft has changed that part too and I am so confused that I don't even know where to start. You can see it for yourself on [/Echelon]
