The 1989 London Cup was the first edition of the tournament to be played since 1953-54. It was won by the Slough Jets who defeated the Streatham Redskins in the final. The cup encountered numerous difficulties as a potential sponsor did not materialize and the Romford Raiders and Medway Bears did not participate due to insufficient ice time. Games were staged on mid-week evenings and rush-hour traffic led to low crowds and late arriving players.
