Cosío was born in 1962 in the Mexican state of Nayarit, but spent most of his life in Ciudad Juárez. A literary scholar and poet, Cosío began his career with the local university as a radio script writer and a radio personality. Later on he became one of the university's professors, teaching literature and communications while also establishing a reputation as an outspoken social activist. His first poetry book, titled Talking Another Voice, was published in 1992, receiving several awards for his deep, insightful prose.
