In the Tales of Leonardo: Blind Sight, weeks go by and Leo's wounds have healed, but he is still blind. Not only this, he is having a crisis of purpose, wondering what how his life would be if he were to throw away his swords, and wondering if his only reason for existence is to kill, and even wondering what would happen if he were to jump off a building a be killed. Splinter suggests that his son's blindness is more psychological than physical, and serves him a cup of his special brew called infini-tea. Drinking the tea causes Leo to sense a change in his surroundings, and realizes he is a samurai in feudal Japan. The samurai Leonardo notices an unarmed man running from the opposite direction in nearby tall grass, and five samurai arrive and converge on the man's location. Leo decides to defend the unarmed man and engages in battle with the five samurai, telling the man to run away. But Leo quickly loses control of his own actions, and watches in horror as he brutally cuts down all five samurai with his twin katana. Leo heads to a nearby village, where his wife and their daughter Yumi welcome him in front of their house. The next morning, Leo is informed his swords have been stolen in the night, but Leo for once is glad they are gone. But Leonardo's Daimyō is furious that the turtle vassal has allowed his swords to be stolen, and banishes the turtle from the village without his wife or daughter. In the countryside, Leo sees the same unarmed man from before. The man points at a ledge above and behind the turtle, where a woman ninja has been prowling. Leo battles the ninja, but she soon relents and unmasks herself to reveal Leonardo's own daughter Yumi, who says she was ordered to kill her father, but changed her mind and would rather die than kill him. Leo realizes his former daimyō must be setting him up, and instructs his daughter to sneak back into the village and spirit her mother away to safety. Yumi asks her father how he knew she was even there, and Leo credits the unarmed man for warning him. But Yumi never saw the man Leo speaks of. Leo prowls into the daimyō's castle and confronts him. The daimyō has heard it rumored that his former vassal was the son of Kappa, but was raised by Kubira the rat, who entrusted the turtle with two magical swords that channel its bearer's fury, and commanded the turtle to kill Kappa, which the turtle then decided against doing. The daimyō holds the swords in his arms, confirming that he stole them and framed the turtle for their theft, but had hoped the turtle would kill his own masked daughter, realize it was her, and then kill himself in shame. The daimyō begins attacking his former vassal, but the unarmed turtle avoids every attack, long enough for the daimyō to begin to lose control of the swords. Leo skillfully disarms the daimyō, who drops both swords at the feet of the statue of Kubira, who is then knocked over into a torch stand which falls over and starts a fast-spreading fire. Leo then sees the same unarmed man from before, who points an escape passage, and two escape the castle together. Once they reach safety, Leo realizes that the unarmed man is actually the homeless man he had killed during the battle with the blind ninja. Speaking for the first time, the homeless man reminds the turtle that he was drugged and blinded, and the blind ninja exploited Leo's perfectionism as a weakness. The homeless man asks Leo what else he can remember about the kill. It becomes clear that two people were present, but he only remembered the sound of one man breathing—the blind ninja had already killed the homeless man and put him in front of the turtle's blade to make him think he had accidentally taken an innocent life. The blind ninja's revenge succeeded, and Leo's own guilt had kept his blind long after the drugs had worn off. Leo's consciousness shifts, and he realizes he is back with Splinter, having sipped the infini-tea, but his vision is now restored. Leonardo had never been acquainted with the homeless man when he was alive, but the echo of the homeless man in Leo's own subconscious had helped the turtle restore his honor along with his vision even in death. But Splinter reveals that Kubira is grateful for the return of the swords Leo had never mentioned to Splinter, suggesting Leo's vision was more than just a vision, and raising even more questions about everything Leo encountered including the homeless man he was finally able to make peace with.
