- Birth by Sleep ist ein Action-Rollenspiel für einen Spieler, wobei aber auch Mehrspieler-Funktionen enthalten sind. Das Gameplay soll dem Stil der vorangegangenen Teile ähneln, insbesondere aber dem von Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (ein Remake von Chain of Memories für die PlayStation 2), wobei die Kartendecks diesmal fehlen. Es gibt eine Aufteilung in 3 Szenarien, bei denen je einer der drei Hauptcharaktere -Terra, Ventus und Aqua- im Mittelpunkt steht.
