In 1998 the neck was changed from a one-piece maple construction to a three-piece maple and bubinga construction and the design was changed from the Wizard to the Super Wizard. Ths S540FM was discontinued after 1999, being replaced by the similar S1540FM, which was part of the Prestige line.

The S540LTD is another similar model without the exotic top and with sharktooth fretboard inlays. Ths S540FM was discontinued after 1999, being replaced by the similar S1540FM, which was part of the Prestige line.
