* When Joe is polishing his wheelchair he recites part of My Rifle; The Creed of a United States Marine, used in Full Metal Jacket, inserting wheelchair for rifle.
* Peter saying that nothing bad happens to space shuttles is a reference to the Space Shuttle Challenger and Columbia disasters, which involves said space shuttles disintegrating mid flight and killing every member of the crew.
