Chouchin no Oni, the Lantern Demon, was an oni of the Shadowlands which roamed the desolated area near the Tomb of the Seven Thunders. It was once a powerful demon in service to Fu Leng which fought against the Empire in the First War, but eventually rebelled against the Dark Lord. Fu Leng severed the beast's head but did not allow it to die, cursing it to live forever until it could find its head. The oni mastered the art of crafting powerful lanterns that it could use in lieu of its missing head. It wore a lantern in place of its missing head, allowing it to see.
