He played junior hockey for the Toronto Marlboros and the Oshawa Generals, winning the Memorial Cup in 1939 with the Generals. After that season, Drummond played senior hockey for the Toronto Goodyears and the senior Toronto Marlboros in the Ontario Hockey Association and the Cornwall Flyers and Cornwall Army in the Quebec Senior Hockey League. He was in the Canadian military in 1943-44.
