- Originally from Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, Strong began his acting career as a student in 1988 at Ithaca College. His parents are Walter and Susan Bistrong, and he has three siblings named Kim Bistrong, Jeff Bistrong, and Danny Bistrong. His first job was as a bartender on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He moved to Los Angeles in 1994, only to return to New York City a year later. He continued to study acting under the mentorship of William Esper and his studio. He returned to Los Angeles again three years later and married fellow actress, Canadian-American Tara Charendoff.

The Strongs currently reside in Toluca Lake, California, with their two sons, Sammy James Strong, born February 5, 2002, and Aden Joshua Strong, born August 25, 2004, and their two dogs, Abby and Baci. In 2001, Strong and his wife established VoiceStarz, Inc., an Internet-based company that teaches people how to get into the voice-over business. In addition to being the C.E.O. of VoiceStarz, Strong is his wife's manager. In 2004 he became a realtor for Keller Williams Realty. He has also started his real estate company, Strong & Prouty.
