Synopsis
  • Arriving in the South Pacific to intercept the Zeta-Beam, Adam soon finds himself in the middle of an ICBM testing range and has to dodge one of the launched missiles before making contact with the beam to transport himself to Rann once more. Arriving on Rann he is instantly knocked down by Alanna so he is not hit by an energy blast. Escaping in her ship, Adam is shocked to find that they are being attacked by Roman gods: Jupiter and Apollo. Having to abandon their ship in order to get away, Alanna explains how one day Hercules, Apollo and Jupiter arrived on Rann thinking it was Olympia, invaded by outsiders and have gone on a rampage. Not listening to reason, the three gods continued to attack Ranagar City. Finding the three just outside the city walls, Adam Strange confronts them and challenges them to a trial by combat. Explaining how he will defeat the three gods, and then states that if he wins they agree to realize that Rann is not Olympia and to leave. The gods agree to the challenge and so Adam prepares for combat with each god. Adam defeats Jupiter with a safety rod that turns him into a lightening rod that redirects Jupiter's lightening attack back at him, knocking him out. Next he defeats Apollo with "nothingness" as promised, using a device that creates a vacuum around Apollo's winged steed, causing it to fall from the sky. He finally defeats Hercules with his bare hands by using Judo to flip the demigod off his feet. Accepting defeat, the three gods agree that they are not on Rann, and after checking their instruments find that flying through a radioactive cosmic-cloud threw off their navigation systems. Just then the radiation wears off and the ship resumes it's course. Adam helps the gods intercept their ship and climb aboard. Once on their ship, the gods are about to reveal the location of Olympia when the Zeta-Beam wears off and Adam is returned to Earth once more.
Notes
  • * "Chariot in the Sky" is reprinted in Adam Strange Archives, Volume 1. * It is unknown if the Roman "gods" in the Adam Strange story are actually the real Greek or Roman gods of myth considering they're looking for a planet called Olympia, and use rockets and other technology it's entirely possible they aren't the real gods of myth. As there isn't any explanation as to their origins explanation is speculative at best.
